EMAIL VIRUS SCANNING

Many Antivirus programs have problems with "timing conditions" when checking for viruses as they send mail. And it is kind of redundant because they already check your emails when they come down from the recipient's ISP. Here is a list of how to stop your outgoing email from being needlessly scanned and possibly causing problems.

AVAST

Right click the A blue ball
Left click On-Access Protection Control
Click the Details..>> button
Double Click on Internet Mail
Make sure it says << Less Detail at the bottom
Click on the SMTP tab at the top of the box
Uncheck Scan Outbound mail
Click OK

AVG

To disable scanning of outgoing e-mail by AVG 8.0 Anti-Virus or AVG Internet Security:

1. Double-click the AVG icon in the Windows tray
2. In the top menu, click Tools > Advanced Settings > E-mail Scanner
3. Un-check "Check outgoing mail" [but leave "Check incoming e-mail" checked]
4. Click OK.

NORTON

To disable scanning of outgoing e-mail by Norton Internet Security:

1. Open Norton Internet Security
2. On the Options menu, click Norton AntiVirus
3. Under Internet, click Email
4. Under "What to scan", un-check "Scan Outgoing Email"
5. Click OK.

MCAfee

To disable scanning of outgoing e-mail by McAfee Security Center:

1. Open (double-click icon) the McAfee Security Center
2. Click the Configure button on the left pane
3. Double-click "E-mail and IM"
4. Click the Advanced button un E-mail protection
5. Un-check "Scan outbound e-mail messages"
6. Click OK.

TREND

To disable scanning of outgoing e-mail in Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security:

1. Open the PC-cillin Internet Security main console
2. Click AntiVirus on the left
3. Click Mail Scan on the right
4. Click the Email Client (Outgoing) tab
5. Un-check "Scan outgoing messages retrieved using supported email clients" option
6. Click Apply.
