RECYCLING

There are several options for you to recycle or otherwise get rid of your older computer equipment without just tossing it into the trash.

SELL/ADVERTISE

As a PCS member, you may place free classified ads on this website to buy, sell or give away ("Free to good home" ads) their computer items subject to certain restrictions.  See the "Classified Ads" section at Legal Stuff.  To place an ad, please Contact Us and give us all the relevant info.

GIVE AWAY

You may bring computer items that are still useful but that you no longer want to PCS meetings and set them up on a table in the back of the room.  Anyone is free to take any of these giveaway items for their use.  There's no raffle here - first come, first served.  If you take an item and find it's not what you wanted, please feel free to bring it back to the next meeting so someone else might be able to utilize it.

You may also try to sell items in this manner here as well.  But unless those items are prominently marked as being "For Sale", you run the risk of someone thinking that they are giveaways and they may disappear!  :)

DONATE

Former PCS member Bruce Stull runs a local group which rebuilds older computers and donates them to worthy causes.  They have donated many units in the Tri-City area to individuals who do not already have computers of their own.  Bruce's group will take your old computer whether it's working or not.  And they will even arrange for your equipment to be picked up.  They can't accept monitors or printers though - they should be taken to the DAV store (see below).

Bruce is looking for people to assist him in rebuilding the computers that people donate to his group.  They clear the hard drive, replace defective components and install Windows.  This operation is easier than it sounds, there is never any pressure and when you go to sleep at night, you can relax knowing that you’ve had a day well-spent!  Plus, with your hands-on experience, it's a great way to learn how your computer works.

For further information, contact Bruce at 541-1373 regarding donating your old computer or assisting him in providing computers to people in the local area.  Or you may email him at:

RECYCLE

If all else fails, you should donate your equipment to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) store at 730 N. 5th Street, Prescott.  Map  The DAV will try to sell your equipment, but if it's too old or simply not popular, they will recycle it.

For info regarding other recycling centers in the local area, please see this list produced by the Westcor Prescott Gateway Mall.  PDF file
