Recycling

There are several options for you to recycle or otherwise dispose of your old or unused computer equipment rather than just tossing it into the trash.

Sell/Advertise

You may place free classified ads on this website to buy, sell, trade or give away ("Free to good home" ads) your computer items subject to certain restrictions.  See the "Classified Ads" section at Legal Stuff.  To place an ad, please Contact Us and give us all the relevant info.

Give Away

You may bring computer items that that you no longer want but are still useful to PCS meetings and set them up on a table in the back of the room.  Anyone is free to take any of these giveaway items for their use.  There's no raffle here - first come, first served.  If you take an item and find it's not what you wanted, please feel free to bring it back to the next meeting so someone else might be able to utilize it.

You may also try to sell items in this manner here as well.  But unless those items are prominently marked as being "For Sale", you run the risk of someone thinking that they are giveaways and they may disappear!

Recycle

A volunteer organization in the Prescott area refurbishes old computer equipment and gives systems away to disadvantaged youths and seniors. The youth systems are distributed by Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the senior systems by the Coalition for Compassion and Justice. Hard drives are wiped clean, reformatted, and a fresh operating system is installed. No data from donors is left on the refurbished systems.

Over the past several years, more than 600 computer systems have been given away through this program in the Tri-Cities area. If you have computer equipment you can no longer use, please call Jim Perry, 458-5058, and he will pick it up from your home. If you want to wipe your hard disk before you give the system away, he will provide a program for you to use.

If all else fails, you should donate your equipment to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) store at 730 N. 5th Street, Prescott.  The DAV will try to sell your equipment, but if it's too old or simply not popular, they will recycle it.
